Tyco Bandit strip and re build

Page 1 of 2Next

Hi,

  • Im a user on rcgroups and I opened many threads on all my Tyco models. I decided to register here since no one gave a toss about my Tyco rebuilds. I just bought a Tyco Bandit in a car boot sale for peanuts and I'll post a disassemble and re assemble thread here. Hopefully there will be some interest in this here. I have included a pic of my Bandit in box. I bought this for €40 which is mad considering it's all there with box etc.

Hi Tomaso

I look forward to your thread and seeing the finished Bandit.

Oh wow! How did I not see this earlier! Too busy building the site, and not enough time spent with my Tycos sadly.

Have you started the rebuild yet? I love watching other people rebuild them, inspires me to get off the computer and give it a shot myself.

I haven't done alot on it yet. I have a few Tyco projects I am working on first before I really dig deep on this.

Had a quick look over it, rear suspension mount on the body is broken and need to fix that. I am going to put oil filled shocks on the back for a start. I'll probably put them on the front also. Don't want to mess with it too much as I like originality. Front and back bumpers I will rechrome or just paint them matte black.

Thanks for the pics! Have you considered how you'll re-chrome? I've read that spray paints  don't look right, but have'nt tried myself yet.  It should be possible to actually electroplate the plastic, just need to spray on a metallic paint first... now that would be cool!

I'd say a chrome spray paint from Halfords or whatever would do the job fine. Ive seen a bandit with painted black bumpers also and it looked very well.

I think i watched a video a long while ago testing chrome paints and if my memory serves i think he found chrome nail polish worked really well for the price. although maybe im totally forgetting lol

I have other Tyco 9.6V's also. Most are stored right now. I generally keep them wrapped in plastic.

You can see the Turbo Bandit is actually quite small compared to the other 9.6 models in the range. The Devastator is massive compared to it.
