tyco r/c Mutator - help

Hello,

I own this supreme rc car for almost 30 years.

I have enyojed every time that I drove it and still now it's a great machine. After so many years the main driver became my son, but now we have a defect. Right pair of wheels makes strange noises when at full throtle. We assume, that one sprocket is ruined.

Is there any manual or did anyone had simmilar problem, how to dissasamble mutator's gearbox, because it is quite complicated and i dont want to make more damage to it.

Please help.

Regards Ales

Hello there,

Unfortunately collecting and disassembling the Tyco R/C is a relatively new thing, as our generation comes to appreciate how special these toys are from our childhood. Modifying and fixing Turbo Hopper, Bandit, and these types is common, but I've not seen someone take apart a Mutator yet.

I had a look for patents, no luck I'm sorry.

If you take it apart, please take some photos, so we can learn from it!

Take care

Thank you Sim for your reply.

I took some photos of the 'problematic' area. Maybe there is someone Who wil get an idea on how to open it.

It looks like that main transmition is in this red marked area. But If I want to open it, I must remove the wheels with wheel holders. And this makes me problems.

I have removed electronics and lifting mechanisem transimition so the wheels can rotate indepndetley.

The lifting mechanisem looks the same at the back and at the Front. On the shaft connecting left and right wheel is a nut. I assume that it is ment for dissasambley.

I have removed 3 bolts On the wheel holder, but I can't remove plastic cover. It looks like that the lifting mechanisem bolt is holding it in place. I have tried to remove the bolt with Just holdingh this wheel holder, but it is stuck. I have also tried to remove it with wrench but I don't have a good grip because there is Just 2mm of nut looking out as seen on the picture.

Any ideas?

Best regards Ales
