MODEL REVIEW
The Tyco Unlimited Hydroplane Boat was an incredible 9.6V ‘Twin Turbo’ (dual motor) racing boat manufactured by Taiyo (Japan) and released into the US, UK, and other markets worldwide by Tyco RC.
Look at that thing! Even better, it performed just as well in the water as it does on the shelf!
Features and Performance
Running with Twin Mabuchi 370 motors with heatsinks, the largest Tyco has ever used. Coupled with Twin-screw propellers, it used “Differential Thrust Steering” which is just a fancy way of saying that it has no rudder, so it uses the two motors to control left/right turns, depending which one is given more or less thrust.
The artwork on the box was top-notch as always, looking very Ken Smith in our opinion. Can you see his signature anywhere?
The Tyco power boats were moderately popular, and for those who had them as children, they’re looked upon very fondly.

Recommendation
Who wouldn’t want something that looks this awesome sitting on the shelf in their den / study / bedroom / whatever? While I’m sure modern brushless boats go faster, there’s something about the late 80s power boat aesthetic that just can’t be beat…. candidate for a brushless upgrade perhaps?
