MODEL REVIEW
Tyco California Classics is a Magnum 440-X2 slot car racing set based around 60's hotrods that was released into the US, UK, and other markets worldwide in 1990.
Concept
California Classics is a straightforward beginners slot car set with a figure 8 track, and two popular hot rod style slot cars.

Features
Apart from the cars, the set features an included 'Grand Stand' cardboard model which can be assembled and placed track side, plus a cut-off track which will ensure one car is thrown off the track if both cars are racing side-by-side over it.
Vehicles
The product ships with the following vehicles:
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air (Red, Orange, Yellow)
1958 Ford 'California Kid' (Black with flames on front)
The cars are typically well detailed, though the scale does look a bit off when they're side by side due to the need to fit the standard magnum 440-X2 wheelbase.

Track Layout
With a simple Figure 8 track that's 8.5 foot total, there's not much to say about California Classic's track layout, other than it having the included Cut-Off Track. Certainly you'd want to be buying another track set to add-on to this one, doubling the length ideally, adding a longer straight and wider variety of turns, but as a beginners set it's plenty to get you started.

Availability and Collectability
Let's face it - it's a simple track without anything really stand-out, but in its simplicity and inoffensive subject matter it's a solid collectable. It has two pretty sweet looking hotrod 440-X2 cars, and a constructable grandstand model that all together make a nice addition to any collection.
This set is widely available on eBay for a reasonable price, many in fairly good condition so it shouldn't be hard to come across a nice one.
