The Tyco Hot Rod Roadster and Tyco Hot Rod Coupe were Hot Wheels branded radio controlled cars manufactured by Mattel under their Tyco R/C brand, and released into various countries worldwide in 1999.

As well as the standard black box, they also came in the Yellow/Black Mattel style box highlighting the special battery pack.
Features and Performance
Powered by a 6.0V the Hot Rod Roadster and Coupes came with an included 6V DP Power Clip which was a small 4 x AA Alkaline battery cartridge that could slot into any standard 6V battery car. Additionally, it could also accept the regular Tyco 6.0v Jet Turbo battery packs that customers may have already owned.
The Hot Rod Coupe is the 27Mhz car, and the Hot Rod Roadster is the 49Mhz car.

Mattel's website states that the Hot Rod Coupe has a top speed of 8.1mph or 13km/h with AA batteries using the 6V DP Power Clip, and 8.8mph or 14km/h using NiCd Batteries (which includes the regular 6.0V Jet Turbo Pack). This is interesting, as usually alkaline batteries would be more powerful, but since the DP clip took only 4 Alkalines, and the 6.0V Jet Turbo pack has 5 Nickel-Cadmium, it ends up being the more powerful option.

Both are pretty good looking models to be honest, and the more I look at them the more I'm wanting one.

Availability and Collectability
The Mattel / Tyco Hot Rod Roadster and Tyco Hot Rod Coupe seem to be generally available online over the last few years, often New In Box or at least with box and in good condition.
If you're interested, now may be the time to grab one before kids of this era start to get nostalgic and the prices begin to increase.
