The Tyco Toyota MR-2 is a simple 4xAA radio control model released by Tyco in 1998.
Two years after releasing the 1986 model 8618 Toyota MR-2 with 9,6v Turbo and pop-up headlights, Taiyo released this simpler 4xAA version that's still great looking car with white wheels, rubber slicks, nice blue paint job, though no pop-ups this time.
It's a pity it's only 4xAA power as the hard body and wheels with slicks look great. Brushless upgrade, anyone?
Unfortunately the bean counters gave gotten to this one, with a cheap-as-scientifically-possible controller that has no on/off switch, and removed the only paint it ever had! I'm surprised the accountants let them keep the Taiyo sticker on there. It's about as bare bones as it could possibly be, Taiyo obviously wanting to stick to a very specific price point, while allowing the car itself to have as much detail as possible.
The Taiyo MR2 was released as the 27Mhz version, together with a yellow 49Mhz Nissan 300ZX. If you have that Nissan, we'd love to see some photos, please comment and attach below!
