MODEL REVIEW

The Tyco Super Turbo F-1 is a 1/14 scale radio controlled car manufactured by Taiyo Japan, and released into the US, UK, and other markets worldwide in 1988.

Concept

In the late 80s Tyco would produce several racing car designs based upon real cars, such as the Indy Turbo Miller, Indy Turbo Dominos, and Indy Turbo Kraco, among the legendary Twin Turbo Valvoline F1 and Marlboro Indy Twin Turbo, among many others.

However these Formula One cars don't appear to be based on any particular car, though they do carry some branding such as Goodyear Tires and Diehard batteries. It also seems as if they were designed to mimic real life sponsored Formula 1 cars, but for whatever reason the deal fell through.

Features and Performance

The Tyco Super Turbo F-1 series comes in two models, the Gold/Black 27Mhz and the Red 49Mhz both pictured below. With lightweight bodies, 9.6v power provided by 8xAA batteries, and slick rubber tires, I'd expect these to handle really well and be plenty of fun indoors on a very smooth surface.

Recommendation

The Tyco Super Turbo F-1 models are oddities in the Tyco range, without any major sponsors or branding to match real cars, they lose a little of their impact.

Still, on a technical level they're well made, quick , and fun to drive. I certainly wouldn't say no to having one in my collection.
