Found a strange one!
Quote from deltadetrix on July 22, 2023, 12:58 pmHey everybody, i picked up a Tyco RC car no controller at small knick knack shop. This is my first Tyco and i got it because its a New edge Mustang and because i drive one i thought this would be neat to have. But the thing is i cant find any info on it when i look it up, i even checked this sites catalogue although maybe there's a chance i just missed it. What i have specifically is a Tyco RC 2000 SVT Cobra-R. whenever i look it up i cant find any images or posts about it and looking under the car it says 1997 mattel inc. which would be unusual to have an RC car released 97 based on a car and body style that only got revealed at the earliest in 98. Either way is slice it if i look up Tyco RC 2000 SVT Cobra R i find nothing, does anyone here know anything about it? im gonna try and upload some photos aswell

Quote from Admin on July 23, 2023, 7:33 pmOh wow, I have not seen this before. Ford Mustang SVT Cobra?
Early-mid 2000soh wow its 1997! Interesting. Under the Mattel-Wheels/Tyco brand. Nice find! The powerclip is pretty useful, as it allows you to insert AA's in all of the "6.0V Jet Turbo" cars, instead of having to charge. The rear tires are actually the same as the 9.6V Lamborghini Twin Turbo too.Not on the site yet, as I have'nt started documenting much after ~1995 currently, but this helps inspire me to do so. I have a list of many cars, but just need to collect good photos.
Thanks for the contribution!
Edit: Geeze that is really detailed. Nice. I'd expect any of the P1 or P2 controllers of 27Mhz type would work, right down bottom of list here:

Quote from deltadetrix on July 24, 2023, 1:51 amAwesome thanks for the reply! at least now i know i’m not crazy for thinking its strange i couldn’t find any info on it lol. Next question then, its been slightly scratched up and not perfect condition from whoever stored it previously, but since its sorta an uncommon tyco/mattel should i not repaint it? My original plan with it was to repaint all the red and add extra details to make it look more like the real car, what do yall think?

Quote from Admin on August 1, 2023, 6:05 pmSorry, I missed this somehow. So you could either paint or polish. The plastic will polish up really well with some Tamiya Polishing compound (course, fine, then finish). That's the easy way (or even easier, some Eraser sponges, the melamine ones also work well). That would stay the same color though, so if you wanted to change the color then it's a matter of finding a paint that's plastic compatible. Don't use the usual auto shop spray paint, that will ruin it (chemically interact with the plastic), get some paint thats specifically made for plastic. I'd go a Tamiya plastic spray paint to be safe, sold at most hobby stores. You'll still need to sand it with something super fine so the paint can grab onto it. Tamiya does a base coat spray thats designed to fill small imperfections, several coats of that, then whatever red you'd like. Then a clearcoat. It will look incredible, but yes painting can be challenging! Pays off though :)
Good luck. Keep us updated!
