The Tyco Ferrari 348 (9.6V Twin Turbo Ferrari 348) is an exceedingly rare RC car released in 1992, alongside the more common but equally awesome 9.6v Twin Turbo Lamborghini Countach. As with most Tyco RC, this Ferrari 348 is the US/Western version of the original Taiyo Ferrari 348, released two years earlier in 1990.
Features and Performance
Perhaps the hottest looking radio control car Tyco would ever release, the Tyco Ferrari 348 wasn’t just about looks. Based on the same incredible chassis of the 9.6V Twin Turbo Lamborghini Countach with Dual RE280 Mabuchi motors, the Ferrari 348 is dynamite to drive, and the equal fastest ever released 31km/h or 19mph.
Specifications:
- High powered ‘9.6V Turbo’ battery system
- 2 x Mabuchi RE280 driving rear wheels
- Rear Differential
- Double wishbone front suspension and shocks on the rear
- Deluxe Pistol Grip Controller with hand guard
- Wide street tires and chromed wheels
- Realistically modelled on the real Ferrari
- Available in 27Mhz Red and 49Mhz Yellow
Did we mention it was rare? This Tyco variant comes up perhaps once or twice on eBay each year, always for serious money, and I’ve never seen the Japanese (Taiyo) one for sale, or even its box. It’s that rare. Personally I’d thought only the Red (27Mhz) existed, until I came across these photos of a beautiful Yellow (49Mhz) version which is just stunning.

Recommendation
Personally I believe this is the #1 Taiyo or Tyco RC car ever manufactured, both as it’s made from the undesputed best chassis, because it looks absolutely georgous, and because there’s so few around that if you have one, you’ll know it’s pretty darn special just by the great big hole in your wallet it created!
So yes, if you see one, I’d highly recommend you grab it if you’re financially able. As for me, I’m left hoping that one just drops out of the sky onto my lap one day, it’s realistically the only chance I’ve got!
