The Taiyo Edge Cell Racer and Mobile Racer toys were a series of miniature 1/32 scale radio controlled cars with a cell phone / mobile phone shaped controller, manufactured by Taiyo Toys Co. Ltd. (Japan) from 2002 - 2004.
Features and Performance
Looking at the bottom of the vehicles to the underside, the chassis is revealed and we can see these are Taiyo Radican cars with a new controller and packaging, which isn't a bad thing since the Radicans are very popular and well made little R/C cars, and also highly collectable.
Taking 2 x AA batteries, they Certainly indoor only, and no way 'off road' despite some claims on the packaging, however these are heaps of fun, and great little toys, though personally I'd prefer the original Radican style which continued to be released in Japan and other countries until the end of Taiyo in 2007.
Versions
As Mobile Racer there were three varieties - New Mini Cooper, New Beetle, and Subaru Impreza WRC. I'm unsure if there are more varieties as Taiyo Edge Cell Racers, but there's certainly plenty of Radican models to choose from. I'll update here should I find more photos.
Availability and Collectability
While the Taiyo Radican toys are highly collectable, I'm unsure about the Taiyo Edge Cell Racer / Taiyo Mobile Racer. They are surely unique toys produced by a unique company with a long history worth documenting like I am doing here, but will toy collectors see them as they do the Radican? That's up to you.
As for availaiblity, the Taiyo Edge series are occasionally available on eBay, however it's the first time I've seen the Taiyo Mobile Racer, so that would seem to be less common.
