The Tyco Scorcher 6.0V Jet Turbo is a radio controlled vehicle manufactured by Taiyo (Japan), and released into the US, UK, and other markets worldwide in 1997.
Easily one of the best 'toy' R/C cars of the 90s, the Tyco Scorcher was a massive success. This is a smaller 6.0V 'Jet Turbo' version which followed several years after the original and much larger 9.6V Turbo Scorcher.
Performance
This 6.0V 'Jet Turbo' version was named the 'Super Scorcher' within Taiyo as it's allegedly faster than the original 9.6V version, despite the decrease in voltage, owing to its smaller size.
In any case, it's not the top speed which makes the Scorcher fun - it's the ability to drive over just about anything in your way!
Many versions cause confusion
If you'd not looked into the Scorcher much you'd assume that it's simple - big chrome ones are 9.6V Turbo, and small yellow wheeled ones are 6.0V Jet Turbo.
And while that's often true, there are plenty of exceptions you need to be aware of to prevent yourself from buying the wrong thing - remember, things look bigger in eBay photos! Just ask people who bought a "couch" only to find it was for a dolls house!
So here's all 4 versions of the Scorcher that we're aware of...

Recommendation
Whatever Scorcher you buy, you won't regret it. Similar to the Tyco Rebound, the Scorcher is such a timeless design that's so simple, well balanced, and well engineered, making it naturally fun to play with.
Even now 30 years later they are still popular, frequently appearing and selling quickly on eBay. Just like the Tyco Bandit though, this popularity means most of the Scorchers were used heavily, and it shows. 80% of the ones you'll find on eBay are scratched up irreparably, many with pieces smashed off. Good toys are loved hard! Rarely have I ever seen a 'mint' Scorcher, so if you come across one, know that you're unlikely to see another!
