MODEL REVIEW

The Ricochet, often referred to as the Tyco Ricochet, was a radio controlled toy with a tank style skid-steer system similar to the Tyco Rebound 4x4 that was manufactured by Kenner (Tonka) and sold in both 9.6V and 6.0V models.

Is it a Tyco? No. So why do people think it is a Tyco RC?

The Ricochet is frequently referred to as the Tyco Ricochet online, however it was not manufactured nor distributed by Tyco based on the available evidence - if you can prove otherwise, I've love to hear from you.

Mandela effect? Haha no.... I can only guess as to why, however I can think of several likely reasons for people (especially kids) assuming it was a Tyco R/C.

  1. The 6.0V Ricochet appears to have shipped with a Tyco 6.0V Jet Turbo battery and charger in the box, and the 9.6V Ricochet would have commonly been purchased alongside a Tyco 9.6V Turbo battery and charger, being the most widely available set at the time. Since there was no clear 'Kenner' logo, kids seeing the TYCO on the battery pack would have assumed the whole thing was Tyco R/C.
  2. The box/packaging looks very much like a Tyco RC box, and the product itself isn't unlike a Tyco R/C car. It's very similar to a Tyco Rebound. And since Kenner were virtually unknown in the RC space, yet Tyco RC dominated, it would have been an easy assumption that this was just another Tyco RC product.
