MODEL REVIEW

This Taiyo Nissan 300ZX is a radio controlled model released on the Japanese market in 1994.

Released together with the 1994 Taiyo Ferrari F-40 in similarly styled packaging, the idea was to offer two lower priced cars on the same shelf, of compatible 27Mhz and 40Mhz frequencies that friends or siblings could race each other, a tactic Tyco had been using even since the released of their Red and Black model Turbo Hoppers.

Features and Performance

Powered by 4xAA batteries (4.8v Ni-Cd rechargeable) this isn't a fast car, but its fast enough indoor fun, with slicks to encourage donuts.

The car itself looks great, modeled after the Nissan 300ZX Pace Car used at the Fuji Speedway from 1989.

There are some disappoints though, chiefly the controller the car is packaged with is one of Taiyo's cheapest ever designs. It feels light, sounds creaky (though maybe that's just 30 years of age), and the trigger response is spongy, but it does the job.

Recommendation

A great looking car, especially if you can score one in-box in good condition. It's twin, the Ferrari F-40 also looks great, but if I had to pick my choice would be this Nissan 300ZX, with the color scheme reminding me of my favorite Nissan Racing Pick-Up 4WD.

*Note: Usually to identify a model number, we'll only use a photo of the manual or box. That wasn't possible with this car, so we are relying on deduction (finding all others, this one is left) As such we're not 100% on the model number, and if anyone can confirm, please comment below!)
