1992 Tyco Turbo Vettes with Nite-Glow

This Tyco Turbo Vettes with Nite-Glow (sometimes spelt TurboVettes) is an electric slot car racing set released in the US, UK, and other countries worldwide by Tyco in 1992.

Concept and Features

A successor to the original 1981 Tyco Turbo Vettes, the 1992 release adds a glow-in-the-dark element to the track and cars, but with an overall simplified track layout, and updated Tyco 440-x2 Corvettes.

The set features:

• 2 x Nite-Glow Corvettes
• 6 x Nite-Glow Barrels
• 15" Squeeze Track
• Nite-Glow tape to
  highlight track areas
• Nite-Glow Guard Rails
• Nite-Glow Poles and Flags

It should be noted that the original 12' of track has been shortened to 8.5' to accommodate these additional features.

Vehicles

The included Chevrolet Corvettes have been modernized to a 90s body style, and manufactured with photo-luminescent resin, with red and blue stripes to identify each vehicle.

Track Layout

With the standard figure-eight layout providing 8.5' of track length, this is one of the smaller Tyco HO slot car sets, though it was no doubt aimed at the newcomer.

The reduced complexity becomes obvious when reviewing the parts list:

• 6 x 9" radius curves
• 1 x 15" cut-off squeeze
• 1 x 9"straight terminals
• 2 x No. 2 supports
• Plus 6 x battels, 8 x guardrails,

Availability and Collectability

Overall this is a simple, low cost Tyco HO Scale 440-X2 set that's a great starter pack for any collection or track build.

Both the 1981 and 1992 sets are generally available on eBay at a reasonable cost, though complete sets in mint condition will obviously be more expensive.
