This Tyco Lamborghini Countach is a radio controlled car, manufactured by Taiyo of Japan, and released in 1992 in the US, UK, and other countries worldwide.
Features
This is the final 'cut-down' version of the Tyco Lamborghini, Made in China (instead of Singapore), and quite a different beast to the original Taiyo/Tyco design in a number of ways, for example:
- Single motor
- Nil or limited suspension
- Completely different chassis design
- Screwed on wheels
which the original would have benefitted from.
Of course, the original Taiyo/Tyco Lamborghini is widely known as one of the best, if not THE best chassis they ever made, with sophisticated front wishbone suspension on the front, and shocks on the back, and a mad twin motor setup.
Original vs This Version
There are some benefits to this cut-down cheaper version - the front bumper is huge! The weak point in the original design was that the steering arm coupled with the front horizontal shock (look for it if you don't know what I'm talking about!) which would almost always crack if you drove into something at high speed. This was because the part was already under serious tension (likely over-tension) due to the horizontal spring, and the added shock of impact would just be too much. .
Performance
With twin motors, the original was FAST. This one? Still quick, we'd estimate about 25km/h. It also has the same outer shell which looks fantastic, and those great rubber wheels, though the wheels are screwed on so I don't think parts are interchangeable with the original versions.
Recommendation
It's an interesting car. I've not tried one myself, but would pick one up if the opportunity arose. It has several good ingredients - 9.6v Turbo, rubber tires, nice looking chassis, and by itself I suspect it's a great vehicle for indoors. Just don't try to compare it with the original, which is on another level entirely.
