MODEL REVIEW

The Taiyo Cyclone 6x6 9.6v Turbo is a radio controlled vehicle manufactured by Taiyo (Japan) and released across Japan and other markets worldwide in 1992.

The 'original' Japanese version of the Tyco Scorcher, this 9.6v Turbo version of the Cyclone 6x6 is so rare that until now we'd only seen it in Taiyo's 1992 catalogue.

Rebranded as the Scorcher by Metro (Australia), and Tyco (USA, World), it's one of the most memorable and successful models ever made by Taiyo/Tyco, thanks to its violently aggressive acceleration for a 'toy', and run-over-anything design.

Unlike the western version which used expensive 9.6v NiCd battery packs, the Taiyo Cyclone shipped with an 8xAA battery holder which allows the use of any regular AA batteries (including alkaline, to provide a full 12 volts).

Features and Performance

The Cyclone/Scorcher contained two of the largest motors Taiyo/Tyco ever used, and combined with 6 wheels (4 driven) straight from the Twin Turbo Lamborghini Countach, it's an exciting drive. Spins are extremely fast, and it just seems to steam-roll over anything put in it's way.

  • 8xAA batteries or 9.6v Pack
  • 2 x Mabuchi RS370 motors
  • 6x4 (6 wheels, 4 driven)
  • Large rubber tires
  • We've only seen this Red (27Mhz) model, though it's likely it came in Silver/Grey (40Mhz) also.

Recommendation

As equally good as it is rare. If you can find it, buy it, and send us some photos!
