MODEL REVIEW

The Taiyo Sound Blaster was a radio controlled car with built-in 'realistic' vehicle sound effects, released into global markets in 1991.

At first glance it appears to be very similar to the 1991 Taiyo Max Turbo Blaster, with the addition of a red button on the top and side for controlling sound effects.

Do you own the Taiyo Sound Blaster?
Do the top and side buttons perform differently? Tell us in comments below!

The Blaster was offered in many countries by Taiyo and other local brands - see below for samples from the English language packaging, and the Spanish version.

Performance

Although it appears to be a Max Turbo Blaster, looking more closely we can see its actually smaller with reduced functionality, and its somewhere between the Max Turbo and the Mini Blaster in terms of features.

The Sound Blaster also uses 6xAA batteries, instead of the 8xAA used by the Max Turbo and the 4xAA by the Mini Blaster. The suspension system is also less robust, and better used indoors or on fairly light off-road tracks.

Collecting

Getting your hands on a Sound Blaster will be tough, as there simply aren't many photographs of this on the internet, and so even less come up for sale. As an alternative, we'd recommend trying the Suzuki Sound Spark ,which has much the same sound-related features.
