1990 Dickie Porsche 911 Cabriolet

The Dickie Porsche 911 Targa is a radio controlled car manufactured by Taiyo (Japan), and released into the German market, and others worldwide, in 1990.

Design and Style

An update to the 1987 original Dickie Porsche 911 Cabriolet, it's presents a sexier, more refined model in matte black that just looks fantastic.

With gold decals and rims, matte black paint, and extended super-wide rear end, with central charge slot accessible from the top, and overall just a great model of the real Porsche 911 with an unusual but compelling style.

Personally I'd ditch that bonnet decal to make it even better.

Features and Performance

As a 4xAA model this isn't designed for high performance, and really excels as a static model with the ability to drive around inside the house, though those rubber tires may offer a bit of fun on a nice smooth surface.

Underneath, it's a very solid and tidy design, with a compact drive unit and steering assembly, not a chassis that we see often in the 4xAA range, and that's a good thing. It's likely this would handle pretty well for a lower power model, given the strength, light weight and small size.

With the charge port directly on top, all these factors suggest it's an entirely unique design created just for this Taiyo Porsche 911 model.

Recommendation

While I'd gone into this review thinking I'd not bother with another simple 4xAA design, the more I look at the Porsche 911 Cabriolet, the more I want one.

The unique chassis, the solid design, and it's great looks earn this simple 4xAA a relatively high score for its class. I'll be picking one up when I can.

Pricing Note:  There is simply not enough of these available to make a price estimate on, and so we've used the next best thing, which is the Taiyo 1990 version, sold as the Targa.
