The Tyco Porsche Speedster is a radio control model manufactured by Taiyo (Japan) and released into the US, UK, and other markets worldwide in 1989.
It's a stunning model in silver, among Tyco's best real world car designs of the 80s with an impressive level of interior detail - the mould is very similar to a Tamiya, it just needs painted!
Externally it's also well detailed, with bumpers, headlights, soft-top (complete with silver cover), rear wing, and 'glass' front and side windows.
Best of all, it's not covered in stickers like the 9.6V version is sadly, this one looks genuinely like an actual 911 Speedster, complete with Porsche logo up front. Nice! For 1989 they did a pretty bang-on job for a toy company I think you'd agree.
Features and Performance
Really the only thing I'd want more from this model is a proper 9.6V Turbo. Thankfully it's no 4xAA version, it's at least got 6xAA which is enough when coupled with the slick tires though it's a shame they did'nt take it into 'Turbo' territory.
While we don't have one in our collection, we imagine it will handle similarly to the Tyco Ferrari F-40 6xAA version, which is plenty of fun indoors, though with a model this good looking do you really want to risk it? Yeah!
Those looking for more power can take a gander at the 1988 Tyco Turbo Porsche 911, though you might want to peel some of those stickers off first.
Recommendation
Clearly a worthwhile addition to any collection, the problem will be finding one as few have come up on eBay over the last few years.
This version will be especially in demand as unlike the older Taiyo versions, it should have active steering, making it much easier to control at lower speeds and indoors.
