MODEL REVIEW

The Max Turbo Blaster 2 Motor is a special edition of a popular radio controlled car manufactured by Taiyo which utilises a dual motor chassis.Thought to be manufactured specifically for Giochi Preziosi (Italy) for the Italian market in 1989.

Collectors familiar with the Turbo Blaster will immediately sense somethings amiss with this model. What is it? Wait, shock towers at the front? Twin Turbo! How could it be!

Concept

Taiyo Japan was known to do special orders and unique designs for regional distributors to ensure the success of their models in local markets, and in this case Giochi Preziosi (Italian distributor of Taiyo) has requested something very special indeed.

While I don't have one hands-on to try myself, based on what I've seen and learned from those familiar with it, this a hybrid of the Aero Jet Fighter and the regular single motor Max Turbo Blaster or regular Tyco Turbo Blaster (shown below)

Features and Performance

Based on the performance of its Aero Jet Fighter chassis, this will be one of Taiyo's most powerful models, packing 2 x Mabuchi 280 motors feeding into a single drive train, driven by 8xAA batteries providing 9.6V with original Ni-Cd or 12V using Alkalines.

Although the box says 25km/h we suspect this may have been due to local regulations, as it's known the Aero Jet Fighter is capable of up to 31km/h (16mph), and really feels much closer to a hobby grade RC when you've giving it full throttle. It's violent!

Full specifications as follows:

  • 8x AA Batteries (9.6V Ni-Cd, 12V Alkaline)
  • 2x Mabuchi 280 motors
  • 2 Speed Gearbox
  • All Around Shock Absorbers
  • Rubber off road tires
  • Power LED and charge indicator

Recommendation

If you're looking for this (until now) relatively unknown version of the Turbo Blaster you're going to have a challenge finding one. The only reason we knew this existed was when it appeared on eBay (link below).

Thanks to evfog0 for providing additional photos to document this beauty, and if you're looking to add this rare item to your collection I'd suggest checking out his eBay listing as soon as possible.
