The Tyco Porsche 959 is a radio controlled model manufactured by Taiyo of Japan, and released onto the US, UK, and other markets globally in 1988.
Modeled after the legendary Porsche 959 sports car, the Tyco radio controlled model does it justice when it comes to looks, and while the power is OK, it's not comparable with a 9.6v Turbo model.
The same chassis and core features were also released under a Silver and Red 1988 Tyco Porsche 959.
The Tyco Porsche 959 was a model of THIS actual Porsche 959...well, not this actual one here, but.... you get what I mean.
Features and Performance
Released together with the small scale Tyco Lamborghini Countach, this Porsche 959 looks the goods, with a perfectly styled body, golden wheels, and slicks.
It maintains the typical 2-Speed gearbox of all 1980s Tyco RC's, making it plenty fast for scooting around the house, though a lack of speed will be noticeable outdoors.
The controller supplied is below average, creaky and clicky (you can feel the sticks touching the switches) however given it's low price point, this is understandable.
Tyco Porsche 959s are typically fairly easy to find on eBay at a reasonable price, and like all 4xAA models you'll have a better chance of finding one in its original box, though that could change at any time.
While the performance isn't up to the 9.6V 'Turbo' standards, they're still fast enough indoors, and most importantly they will provide you with that warm 80s nostalgic smile as you cast your mind back to the summer of '88!
