This Taiyo Mini Hopper is the original Mini Hopper released by Taiyo to the Global/European market in 1986, alongside the full size Taiyo Jet Hopper.
Features and Performance
This Global/European version retains the same Made in Japan model, but with English and French packaging, and was available in both Red and White.
Its most unique feature is the unusual ‘flat’ front wheels, looking very similar to those on the Tamiya Grass Hopper, which was the core inspiration for the original Jet Hopper design.
Comparing the photo below of the actual Tamiya Grass Hopper, and the white Taiyo Mini Hopper (Original), you can see the resemblance!
Powered by 4xAA batteries and Made in Japan, it had decent performance and quality for a 1986 RC car, and this version in particular is quite rare and hard to find, so if you come across one for a reasonable price, we'd highly recommend adding it to your collection!
Availabilty and Collectability
First edition Mini Hoppers, both original Japanese and 'Global' versions come up very rarely online, and are no doubt all with collectors at this time. If you are looking for one of these cars, I'd recommend joining our Facebook Group and seeking out a member looking to sell.
