MODEL REVIEW

The Taiyo Fairlady Z (300ZX Turbo) is a remote control car released in 1986, based on the Nissan of the same name.  With 9.6V 'Turbo' power, and a great looking rendition of the 300ZX, this is one hot collectable.

Features and Performance

Just like any good 1980s American-inspired sports car, it's fast in a straight line, but rubbish around corners! (I joke, I joke!) But no, really, with 8xAA 9.6V Turbo mode, it is fast, clocking at 29kph (18mph) which is just 1mph off the highest speed Taiyo Lamborghini Twin Turbo! Incredible.

On the downsides, the Turbo will only kick-in on a straight line, which is OK I guess, but it's unfortunately let down by passive electromagnetic steering (only turns when moving forward) which is rather weak, making control less confident despite the high quality controller unit it comes with.

That said, this is a great looking model, the build quality is typical of Taiyo (ie. great), and it's rarity all combine to make this a wonderful collectors item.

Photos from the truly excellent blog of 'Iota Are' which I encourage any fan of Taiyo to visit, especially if you like Radican - http://radicon.blog.jp/
