Nikko saturn and frostbite

hey guys and gals, just picked up these two little gems from my local toyworld thats closing down. The boxes are worn but the cars and controllers look unused. They were sold as is not working so im wondering if there was a fault with this model from factory? Would love to get them up and running again just not sure where to start. After installing batteries in both transmitters and vehicles i got no response from the cars, although when i touched the antenna together (transmitter and vehicle) the steering would twitch and rear wheels would move slightly so i am assuming its not a power issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Likely not a fault from factory, possibly a customer return (and 90% of returns there's nothing wrong with).

I'm assuming you used fresh batteries (the ones inside would be flat), and there's no visible corrosion or damage?

Usually any issues are very minor, unless these ones were customer returns as they didn't work due to factory defect perhaps, as happens with all mass produced products, but I'd not reach that conclusion yet.

Yep tried fresh batteries in both the cars and transmitters. Unfortunately by the looks of it neither of the cars have seen any use at all ie no tyre wear, scuffs or corrosion in the battery tray, which im worried is going to result in a manufacturing fault somewhere. I have attached a few better photos of their overall condition.

So strange. Surely it's something simple. I'd be opening them up, probably a loose wire, or something simple like this. Hopefully!!

So been a while since i have had the chance to do much with these. I pulled the frostbite apart tonight, and everything looks to be in good condition. I put fresh batteries in the remote and car, and after turning on and trying to get the car to respond for maybe a minute, these capacitors got super hot, hot enough to start melting the glue/wax on the board. Gonna let it cool down and inspect the board to see if maybe two solder points have crossed causing it to short.
