Differences between 1st, 2nd, 3rd Gen Tyco RC Transmissions

Curtis 'Tyco King' posted this on our Facebook Group, and I felt it needs to be saved somewhere for future reference.

"Ok, so I took out some of my extra Tyco parts to help some people understand and tell the difference between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen transmissions. So for 1st and 2nd gen, they have the long red/orange straight piece that you switch from low gear to high gear. In the pic circled, you can see right above the gear switches there is a mold and one is longer than the other.
Now, for the 3rd gen, the most notable change is the gear switch. It has a red/orange slot you now swipe left to right for low and high gear. I believe Tyco made these transmissions stronger as they noticed the last gens kept stripping too fast, or they just wanted to make a faster and more durable trans. Yes, they are faster as I tested them with a race between a wild thing and Tyco heads up. Also, these are the transmissions I only use when I modify a Tyco to brushless as they are stronger.
I won't recommend using the later gens if you plan to go that route. This was Tyco last transmissions before they went out of business, but I always wondered what they would have come up with next if they still were making RC cars today.
I hope this info helped someone feel free to ask questions or correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks!"
