Hello all,
And thank you for accepting the invitation to moderate TycoCollectors on Facebook, or considering the invitation if you are yet to accept.
Full transparency, when NostalgiaRC added moderators I was a bit apprehensive, since you are essentially representing my baby – TycoCollectors.com, a resource I’ve spent many years of my personal time, and scraping money together to pay for. One of the reasons I built the site was because another popular site was ran by someone who was widely regarded as a jerk, not accepting articles people submitted, being overly critical and generally unwelcoming. I don’t want that for TycoCollectors. I’ve repeatedly tried to engage with that person, since we should be colleagues able to help eachother and boost eachothers efforts, but nope. I’ll admit it did feel nice when TycoCollectors.com absolutely smashed the search engine results hehehehe
Anyway, back on topic…. so as moderators your main guideline should be – avoid moderating unless you must! We’ve all been a part of moderator-heavy groups where some king or tyrant looks to enforce their will on people, and it’s not cool. You’ve posted something with good intentions, and they delete/kick/ban because you’ve just barely scraped into some rule, it’s not a good feeling.
Ultimately if you’re unsure, ask yourself “is this beneficial to the community? Will people like this?”
Here are some basic guidelines:
- Light Touch
It’s best if moderators don’t get involved unless absolutely necessary. If you must get involved, go easy.
– Never get involved in personal, emotional disputes or slinging matches.
– If you feel you’re getting emotional on a topic, step back, and leave it for someone else, or later.
– If you have a personal disagreement with a particular user, let another moderator take action rather than yourself. This will avoid any negative repercussions for everyone involved. - Delete Posts for:
– Selling without a video including Tyco Collectors written somewhere
– Obvious spam, especially unrelated topics, or other Facebook groups (usually their own). - Do not delete ‘spam’ when
– It’s something that someone has put hard work into that is of genuine interest to the community.
eg. someone’s making stickers, hats, replacement parts, has made a Youtube video on topic, we should encourage this kind of stuff, unless it’s posted by some spam factory that can’t barely speak english. - Bannable offences are limited to:
– Obvious scammers. Ie. photos are re-used, profile looks dodgy, users have complained.
– Repeated ignorance of rules #2, #3, #4 after 2 warnings (eg. repeatedly being an asshole after warnings, you delete a sale post for no video and provide warning, they repost again later, you delete, they repost again – ban.) - We love everything 80s, 90s, 00s!
All brands (Nikko, Radio Shack, etc.), All Types of Toys, Movies, Cartoons, etc.
If it’s nostalgic between 1980 onwards, then we love it.
If you have any feedback on these rules we’re completely open to it.
Thank you
Simon
Rules as of 15th November 2024
Note: Rule #4 isn’t a rule, it’s just there to encourage users to use eBay and support the site.
