The Taiyo Jeep Renegade (or Taiyo Offroad Jeep Renegade) was an early 1/10 scale full function radio controlled car manufactured by Taiyo (Japan), and released into the global market in 1980.
Initially released in Europe with an unheard of (at the time, for RC ‘toys’) 3-Speed Gearbox and a whopping 5 x C-Size batteries, this was an absolute monster!
Taiyo Jeep Renegade
Sadly it’s hard to even find photos of this thing, nevermind buy one, however its presence can be seen in so many Taiyo, Radio Shack, Tomy, Tyco, and other 80s RC vehicles which were made by Taiyo directly from their experience with the Renegade, or were inspired by the Renegade.
A more popular cousin
Be careful not to confuse this with the Mark 2 “Jeep Renegade” of very similar design, released globally which is much more available and uses only (only!) 4xC-Size batteries.

If you know what that 3rd spot on the gear selector is, we’d love to know! On later models it would be used for the winch but I can’t see that in this model. Potentially it was for headlights? Surely not reverse, pretty sure the controller took care of that.
