The Taiyo DeLorean Back to the Future Part III is a miniature radio controlled car released by Taiyo in Japan in 2001, in association with Universal Studios Japan.
Release
The DeLorean Part I and DeLorean Part III cars released in 2001. It was not until 2004 that the DeLorean Part II ‘The Ride’ car was released, and sold exclusively in Universal Studios Japan, finally allowing collectors to obtain all 3 cars from the movie.
Collectability
While all RadiCan cars are highly collectable and in demand, the three RC DeLorean cars stand out as some of the most valuable, together with the RadiCan Knight Rider car, and the Coca Cola Chevy cars.
To maintain it’s value we’d recommend always buying items with their shrink wrap still intact, much more possible with RadiCans than any regular Taiyo / Tyco cars.
Performance
RadiCan cars are incredibly popular with collectors, perhaps even more than traditional Taiyo / Tyco RC cars, simply because their small size and large selection makes them easier to collect.
Their performance however as radio control cars is average. With just 2xAA batteries (3V) their top speed is around 6km/h, though they are full function (forward, back, left, right) and nicely detailed.
With around 50 Radican models available, all becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find, it’s a race between collectors around the world to complete their collection before it’s too late.
