The Tyco Kyle Petty Stocker is a radio controlled car manufactured by Taiyo (Japan) and released in the US, UK, and other countries worldwide in 1997.
Coolest looking Toy R/C ever made?
Sure it’s no Super Bandit, or Fast Traxx Eliminator, or 4WD Racing Pickup, but you’ve gotta admit this HotWheels Nascar inspired RC is pretty darn cool!
Modelled after the No. 44 Hot Wheels/PE2 Pontiac driven by Kyle Petty, there’s something about this one that makes me fall in love with it immediately.
Packaging and Design
Once again the Tyco marketing and packaging team is firing on all cylinders, and has made the box look irresistible – I don’t know what voodoo science they use, but it just makes me want to buy!
Features and Performance
Powered by the 6.0V Jet Turbo battery pack, it also comes with a ‘Dual Power’ or DP Power Clip, which allows you to insert 4xAA Alkaline batteries inside as an alternative to the 6.0V rechargeable Ni-Cd provided.
It’s a great idea if you want to play more but your battery is flat, and also doubles as a spare battery for any other 6.0V Jet Turbo car, of which Taiyo / Tyco has many – including the excellent Tyco Rebound, Tyco Python, Fire Power, Scorcher 4×6, and many others. Very handy for collectors!
Recommendation
In my opinion, these are a great buy right now. They’re relatively easy to get in good shape, they look fantastic, they appeal not just to R/C fans but NASCAR fans, and Hot Wheels toy collectors, IMHO these are a must have for any serious Tyco RC collector, or 80s toy collector simply from the value proposition alone.
Currently available on eBay fairly widely, you should’nt have a problem getting your hands on one of these, however I suspect that won’t be the situation for too much longer.
