The Tyco Jurassic Park Lost World Truck is a radio controlled toy manufactured by Taiyo of Japan, and released in the US, UK, and other countries worldwide in 1997 to coincide with the movie.
While many feel the 1990s were too commercialized for Tyco, it can’t be denied that they created some seriously fun and memorable products. Among those is the Jurassic Park Lost World Truck from 1997.
Just look at that packaging!

From the rear we can see that this uses the standard 6.0V ‘Jet Turbo’ workhorse chassis also used in the Fire Power, Python, and others of this era. It’s a decent, reliable RC with most of the drive train components externalized, leaving enough room inside the cavity for whatever gadgets they wanted to cram in there.

The whole product comes in this fantastic flip-box black/yellow design with beautiful illustrations on the front, which have become a collectors item in themselves. The boxes are often sold by themselves on eBay for quite a healthy sum!
The spitting Dilophosaurus is the real feature of this set, spitting water on command via the controller.
Patently similar
The car is so similar to the Tyco Python in function, that there was no individual patent filed for it, instead a patent was only filed for the Python as it contained all three features required for the Lost World Truck.
- Externalized motor and gearbox (Green)
- Water tank and pump (Blue)
- Spring mechanism to launch up creature (Red)

Recommendation
Individual cars are relatively cheap, but if you’re looking for the whole package, be prepared to pay hundreds. The Lost World truck is a classic 90s toy that will be caught up in the much broader hobby of vintage toy collections, and will only grow in value over time.
If you were lucky enough to grab one while prices were reasonable, then good on you. If not, well, maybe you’ll get lucky.
