12th November 2023 If you’re looking for the perfect nostalgic gift from the 80s and 90s, a vintage Tyco Mini Hopper is my pick! They’re great collectors items and are still fairly affordable.
The Tyco Mini Eliminator is a radio controlled car released into the American market, and other markets worldwide, in 1993.
It is a miniature version of the full size 9.6V Turbo Tyco Eliminator, with the large rear wing, chrome embellishments, and characteristic Black and Pink paintjob.
The Tyco Mini Eliminator is an excellent car for younger kids, with an all-round tough build, and big front bumper to protect fragile steering components.
The Mini Eliminator is especially good for younger kids, as its large front bumper will prevent significant damage to the steering components, a common failure point of Taiyo / Tyco RC vehicles.
Performance
Top speed and acceleration are typical of the 4xAA (6V) range, so nothing special, though it moves around fast enough, and will jump off a small ramp. Most importantly, it is a full function car, with all its major functions (forward, back, left, right) intact.
If you want performance, I’d recommend the full size Eliminator. It’s bigger, tougher, and heaps of fun. Also becoming quite valuable.

‘Mini’ Range
There are ‘Mini’ versions of almost every car that Tyco and Taiyo ever made, typically using a standard reliable 4xAA chassis, except for the Typhoon series which remained 9.6V.
What’s there to say? It’s a great little R/C, looks good, combines well with an Eliminator, Bandit, Super Bandit collection, and you don’t see them around very often so it’s unique. Recommended.
