The Tyco Super Bandit is a 1/14 scale radio controlled car manufactured by Taiyo (Japan), and released into the UK market in 1992.
It is the same model as the Tyco Eliminator, however presumably there were issues with that brand in the UK, and so its name and decals were changed to ‘Super Bandit’.
Features and Performance
A ‘futuristic’ version of the Tyco Bandit, with the same chassis underpinning the design. Features include:
- Powered by 9.6v ‘Turbo’ Battery Pack
- Large Mabuchi RK370 motor
- Top Speed of 27km/h (17mph)
- 4 x Shock Absorbers
- Extra Large Bumper for Frontal Protection
- Solid Rear Axle (No Differential)
- Extra Wide Rear Tyres and Wider Fronts
- Chrome Wheels, Chrome Body Features, Epic 90s Fluro Streaks
According to advertising materials, it was “Tyco’s fastest ever truck” at the time of release, and maybe still today. We’re seeking to confirm speed, however to be amongst the fastest it would need to run at least 27km/h (17mph).
The Super Bandit was also sold as the Tyco Eliminator in the USA.
Recommendation
Eliminators and Super Bandits are attracting a premium price due to their association with the ultimate in premium priced models, the Tyco Bandit. Essentially they’re all the same chassis underneath, so if you’re unable to get a Tyco Bandit at a reasonable price, you may consider one of these for slightly less.
