The Tyco Mini Blaster was a 4xAA full function remote control car, released in 1992 by Tyco.
Five years after their major success with the Jet Hopper / Turbo Hopper, and later the Typhoon, Taiyo and Tyco created a mini-sensation when they released the Mini Blaster into the public.
A smaller version of the full size 9.6V Taiyo Blaster, the Mini Blaster was an instant hit thanks to its eye catching design and packaging, excellent Taiyo build quality, and full function performance for a low price.

Despite its smaller size and less powerful 4xAA battery power, the Mini Blaster was still plenty of fun to drive, with a basic rear suspension system and the usual Taiyo / Tyco build quality, which was especially good considering the reduced price point.
These remain excellent first RC cars for youngsters today, with just enough power and handling to make them fun, but not so much that they’re likely to break anything in a hurry.
The Mini Blaster is an excellent addition to any collection, as one of the best examples of the Taiyo / Tyco ‘Mini’ range, and with a large number sold they’re relatively easy to buy and will remain in the minds of so many 80s/90s kids including myself, who still hold nostalgic memories of them.
