12th November 2023 If you’re looking for the perfect nostalgic gift from the 80s and 90s, a vintage Tyco Mini Hopper is my pick! They’re great collectors items and are still fairly affordable.
The Tyco Mini Bandit is a 1/20 scale radio controlled car manufactured by Tyco Toys (Japan), and released into the US, UK, and other markets worldwide in 1992.
A smaller version of the 1992 Tyco Bandit (9.6V Turbo) released the same year, it looks the part with its large air duct in the back, chromed driving lights, chromed windows, and high-in-the-rear pickup style stance.
Primarily aimed at younger kids, it was less expensive and easier to drive, slower and more lightweight meaning harder to crash and break.

Features and Performance
Equipped with 4xAA batteries (6V) and being relatively light weight, the Tyco Mini Bandit is fun to zip around indoors, and even outdoors in fairly stable terrain such as rocks, dirt, asphalt, etc.
It’s rare to find any Tyco Mini models with a broken bumper, or broken anything, simply as their slower speed coupled with Taiyos excellent build quality meant they lasted and lasted – even now, 35 years later.

Recommendation
One of the best Tyco Mini R/C cars, the Mini Bandit looks great, and drives well for a 4xAA car, and if you can find one in decent condition it would make a great addition to your collection – especially alongside its bigger brother the 9.6V Turbo Tyco Bandit, or other 90s Tyco favorites like the Hammer, Fast Traxx, Wild Thing, etc.
