MODEL REVIEW

The Metro Scorcher 6×6 is a radio control vehicle manufactured by Taiyo of Japan, and released into the Australian and New Zealand markets in 1992.

Based on the original Taiyo Cyclone 6×6 released in Japan, the Scorcher was a westernised version with a strong TV marketing campaign developed by Tyco (USA) and used under licence by GTI Australia (trading as Metro RC) .

The story of GTI/Metro is detailed further in our 1986 Metro Jet Hopper product page so we won’t cover that here, however it’s worth a read.

Features and Performance

One of the most high powered vehicles Metro ever released. Spins are violently fast, and it just seems to steam-roll over anything in it’s path, indoor or outdoor.

  • 9.6v Battery Pack
  • Twin Mabuchi RS370 motors
  • 6 Wheels (4 Driven)
  • Large rubber tires borrowed from Lamborghini
  •  Available in Red(27Mhz), Grey/Silver(40Mhz)

Recommendation

Despite bringing out some shocking models in the 90s which were all gimmick and no fun, the Scorcher stands as one of the best that Tyco ever made, and remains plenty of fun today.

Whether you get one to blast around and show your kids what a real RC toy looks like, maybe give it a brushless mod, or buy a clean shelf queen still in box to proudly display, you will be plenty happy with the Scorcher.

Of course Metro versions are extremely rare, and really no different from the Tyco variants, so if you don’t want to wait for the rare occasion someone lists on Aussie eBay, consider getting the 1992 Tyco Scorcher version.
