The Taiyo Mini Outlaw is a 1:18 scale radio control car released onto the Japanese market in 1988. It is a mini version of the awesome Taiyo Outlaw Sprinter (9.6v Turbo).
For those unfamiliar, Sprint cars are custom built 6.7L 900 horsepower V8 race cars popular in America, Canada, and Australia, which race around an oval dirt track. Sprint cars have been common stepping stones for famous Formula One, Indy 500 and Nascar racers such as Mario Andretti, Al Unser Jr, Al Unser Snr, Johnny Parsons, and many others.
Features
The Mini Outlet looks the part, with plenty of detail including great big wings, engine, roll cage, exhausts, and driver.
Performance
The Mini Outlaw differs from other Taiyo Minis, in that it uses 6xAA batteries (not 4xAA) giving it more power than normal – a great decision by Taiyo considering this is a model race car.
For something faster, we’d recommend the full size 9.6V
1987 Taiyo Outlaw Sprinter or 1988 Tyco Turbo Outlaw (link).
Recommendation
The Mini Outlaw is one of the better ‘Mini’ cars, with decent speed, and great styling, we can certainly recommend it, especially if you’re having trouble getting hold of a larger version which are increasingly rare and expensive.
