The Taiyo Porsche 962 is a 1/20 scale radio controlled toy manufactured by Taiyo (Japan) and released into the Japanese market, and others worldwide in 1987.
Released a year after the game-changing Jet Hopper, this early Porsche 962 was a very simple model that was clearly aimed at children, without any of the usual high-end features that Taiyo models of the time typically delivered.
Features and Performance
Coupled with a 4xAA battery it was never going to be the fastest radio controlled car, but for a child or budget conscious, it’s a high quality toy with low center of gravity and slick tires, making it plenty of fun indoors on a flat surface.

All of the above run on 9.6V, some with dual motors, and are amongst the best models manufactured by Taiyo. The RadioShack probably has the most incredible artwork though!
Recommendation
For toy collectors the Taiyo Porsche 962 represents a late 80s R/C toy with higher than average quality thanks to its Japanese design and manufacture. It’s likely to appeal to those who owned one as a child, or other determined collectors looking to have the complete set of Taiyo R/C.
