The Tomy Porsche 956 Turbo is a radio controlled car, manufactured by Taiyo of Japan, and released into the Japanese market in 1985.
Several versions were released, including this original Japanese version released under Tomy, the Global (English) version, and the Dickie (German) version.
For a full backstory, please read the Global (English) product page.
Features and Performance
One of the first Taiyo performance models released in two frequencies (27Mhz, 49Mhz) allowing two friends or siblings to purchase a model each, and have competitive races against each other.
Was also the first Taiyo we know of prior to the Jet Hopper with a ‘Turbo’ boost mode, though with a slightly reduced 7xAA (8.4V).
- Full function (Forward/Reverse/Left/Right)
- ‘Turbo Boost’ with 8.4V (7xAA)
- 2-Speed Gearbox
- Slick Racing Tires
Top speed of approximately 20km/h based on our estimates.
Recommendation
A precursor to a generation of Taiyo ‘Turbo’ models, the Porsche 956 Turbo is historically important to both Taiyo, and radio control toy history in general.
While I’m personally prioritizing its successor, the Taiyo Porsche 962C, were this 956 model available at a reasonable price I’d have a hard time saying no.
